Section 11: Support staff & useful contacts & FAQS

What if someone leaves early or goes past the allotted time? After the initial 6-week qualifying period, the 5% contribution is non-refundable. If the learner leaves at any point after that i.e., you remove them or they leave employment, or they go past their allocated apprenticeship time, then there is nothing further to pay. If the learner leaves employment, then the training provider will attempt to re-engage them with the new employer.

Do you have to complete Math’s and English? For all apprenticeship programmes at level 3 and above, to exempt yourself, you must present evidence i.e., GCSE certificates, that show you have a grade C/4 in Math’s and English. If you can’t then you will be required to complete some upskilling on the programme and eventually complete a computer based functional skill level 2 exam. Although we appreciate this can be a barrier to some, you can also look at this as an opportunity to finally get the grade you missed out on! Functional skills are the nationally recognised equivalent to a GSCE, but instead are a work-based functional version.

I got the required grades, but can’t find my certificates? If you do find them later, then we can remove the functional skill element from your programme after it has started. You are also able to contact your school or college to request a copy of your certificates, but some institutes may charge. This post is sponsored by our partners.

What if my apprenticeship programme is a level 2? Again, if you don’t have a grade C/4 at GCSE Math’s & English, then you will be required to work towards sitting a level 2 functional skill, except there is no expectation for you to pass it on order to complete the apprenticeship.

Can I complete another apprenticeship once I finish? Yes, you can. It would be the same eligibility checks as before; checking your job responsibilities allow you to gather the competency skills evidence required via the RLRP task. Plus, checking we are giving you enough new knowledge/skills from your previous programme via a skillscan.

Can I change programme at any point? Typically, no, but if it is very early on (within the first few months) and you have completed work that can be transferred across then we may consider it.

What if I have recently recruited someone and they aren’t working out? When you employ someone, whether it is an apprentice or a normal hire, then is will always refer to your companies own probation policy. If you are looking to take an apprentice for the length of the apprenticeship only, then you could look at fix-term contracts. However, you would need to factor in an additional 3 months on top of the apprenticeship timescale to allow for EPA.

What do I get once I complete? Learners will receive a certificate of completion directly from the awarding body. Please note, this certificate is sent to the employer and usually takes about 3 months to receive. Regarding professional recognitions i.e., ARLA membership. You would need to contact the ARLA members, which will guide you as to what you need to submit, alongside the completion of your apprenticeship.

I have been asked to provide a policy I don’t have? You can access policy templates by contacting your original Business Development POC.
